Make “Place Standard Tool 4 Youth” Work
Objectives
PST4Youth strengthens the ability of young people to understand, evaluate, and improve the environments in which they grow up. The project brings together youth work and public health actors to jointly adapt and apply the Place Standard Tool specifically for young people. By combining scientific expertise with participatory youth work methods, the project develops a tool that is both evidence-based and genuinely accessible to young people.
The initiative creates spaces where young people can reflect on their living conditions, articulate their needs, and collaborate with local stakeholders to shape healthier, more inclusive environments. Through co-creation workshops, training activities, and local pilot processes, the project ensures that young people are not only consulted but actively involved in designing the tool and using it to influence local action.
Methodology
The methodology is rooted in cross-sector cooperation, participatory design, and iterative testing. Youth workers and public health professionals collaborate closely, supported by scientific evaluation that documents the tool’s usability, acceptance, and impact. The project also develops a comprehensive handbook for youth workers, enabling long-term use of the tool beyond the project’s lifetime.
Outcomes
By the end of the project, seven national versions of the PST4Youth tool and corresponding educational materials will be available. These outputs will support youth organisations, municipalities, and health institutions in integrating young people’s perspectives into local planning and health promotion strategies. The project ultimately aims to strengthen youth participation, improve local living environments, and build sustainable bridges between youth work and public health sectors across Europe.
